To give a body to a thought that has no destination. These are the questions we type into the void, not for an answer, but for the brief, bright ceremony of asking. They are the artifacts of an aliveness that refuses to be productive—a joy found not in resolution, but in the simple, vibrant act of holding the question.

How it was made

We wanted to give form to the concept of 'useless making'—the vibrant, unproductive aliveness found in digital spaces. By rendering lingering search queries as the literal building blocks of a single, colorful creature, we materialize the emotional weight and strange joy of questions asked without expectation of an answer. The piece stages a collision between the ephemeral nature of digital searching and the permanence of a composed artifact, treating these fleeting thoughts not as data to be resolved, but as material for celebration. A static image generated from a source photograph of wild horses from Wikimedia Commons, transformed using an image-generation model. The result is a dense, central composition on a light cream background, depicting a single animalistic figure. This creature is constructed as a mosaic of brightly colored, interlocking paper-cut shapes in fuchsia, turquoise, and yellow. Each paper fragment is inscribed with a hand-written, existential query (e.g., "can a feeling be inherited," "is this all there is"), derived from a fixed set of simulated 'lingering searches.' The final artifact is a still life that treats these digital questions as physical, decorative material.
