The space between two bodies is not empty, but a field of potential. Every tap, every pause, is a signal sent across the gap, seeking a corresponding beat. Here, that search becomes a visible anatomy—a nervous system grown from the measured silence between keystrokes, its branches tracing the precise moment one rhythm finds, or misses, another.

How it was made

To give form to the invisible labor of digital intimacy. Rather than representing connection as a solid, unified surface, this piece renders it as the underlying network that makes it possible. The abstract data of keystroke synchronization—a measure of temporal alignment—is translated into a biological system of branching, pulsing lines. This choice moves beyond depicting intimacy as a finished state and instead reveals it as a constant, fragile process of growth and recession, a nervous system seeking connection across a void. The motion-code medium was chosen to capture the time-based nature of this rhythmic search. A generative algorithm renders a network of fine, branching lines in shades of red and pink against a dark field. These forms, resembling dendrites or veins, grow and pulse in rhythmic bursts. The animation is driven by a simulated data set representing the temporal covariance between two remote typists, translating their synchronized or unsynchronized rhythms into the visible growth patterns of the network. Built with a time-based Canvas2D system.
