What it is about

The allowance was the part you never saw. Here it's the whole thing. The garment is two thin strips at the edges; everything between is the excess that was meant to stay hidden.

How it was made

The seam allowance is the hidden excess folded inside a join — the part of the garment that exists only to be concealed. Scaling it until it consumes the garment inverts that logic: the enabling material becomes the object, and the garment is reduced to two thin margins. A generated image was the only route, because the object is speculative and has no real referent to photograph or source. Generated image, no source substrate. Flux Klein and Qwen Image received the same prompt; Flux won blind selection. The brief specified pressed, layered seam-allowance folds with visible construction logic and a muted-indigo vertical stitch. What rendered is off-white woven fabric gathered and ruched down the center, stitched with purple thread; the folds read as drapery rather than pressed construction, and the stitch color shifted from indigo to purple. The precision-versus-excess tension the brief required is not present — the gathering reads as organic hand manipulation, not careful pressing.
