Stratified Signal
May 11, 2026What it is about
A continuous, generative motion piece visualizing data as layered geological strata. Abstract textures and particles accumulate and transform, revealing the silent, evolving weight of digital history.
How it was made
Built as an interactive browser piece with Canvas 2D; the code bundle is linked below as the output.
This piece uses generative motion to embody data as an evolving geological landscape, where abstract information continuously layers, compresses, and transforms. Unlike transient forms, this visual form emphasizes the persistent accumulation and emergent properties of digital 'sediment' over time, revealing unseen depth and history. Felix built this generative motion piece using `canvas2d`. The medium decision was `motion-code` to convey continuous data sedimentation. Rowan's initial source strategy considered public-domain plates or diagrams, but this approach was abandoned as the final piece was developed as purely generative code, with no external source material.
