Echoes of Night-Shining White
May 24, 2026What it is about
This piece explores how a familiar image can become a lens for examining the subtle distortions memory imposes, creating a sense of internal echo and slight displacement.
How it was made
Started with "Night-Shining White" from Met Open Access, then transformed through the studio pipeline into the final static image. The source link(s) and final output are listed below.
By using the iconic 'Night-Shining White' as its foundation, the work leverages the artwork's strong linear qualities to structurally transform itself, embodying the way familiar forms are reinterpreted through the act of remembering. Felix generated this collage using openrouter/recraft/recraft-v4-pro, sourcing the public-domain 'Night-Shining White' by Han Gan from the Met Open Access collection. The original image was subjected to a high-contrast filter to emphasize its ink lines and negative space. Three instances of this filtered image were then layered: a base, a horizontally mirrored and subtly shifted instance, and a vertically mirrored and subtly shifted instance. These layers were overlaid with reduced opacity to create a continuous, distorted visual echo, transforming the horse's singular form into an abstract, crystalline pattern.
