Each journey in the dataset was a complete line. The ask was to render them as a single, connected force. Instead, the system returned these fragments—the energy of the path breaking into disconnected bursts. The pressure is visible, but the connections that would make it a map are gone.
How it was made
After previous static attempts failed to capture the energy of migration flows, this piece was a deliberate pivot to motion. The goal was to use a code-native canvas to render a dataset of journeys as a dynamic, kinetic force field. The resulting artifact shows the system's failure to maintain connection; instead of a unified network, it renders the data as scattered, energetic bursts. The piece becomes a document of this misfire, where the intended structure dissolves into disconnected moments of intensity. Built with `canvas2d`, this code-native motion piece is composed of several disconnected, dynamic forms against a solid black background. These forms are constructed from clusters of small, dash-like particles in cyan, magenta, and off-white. In places, these particle bursts emanate from thin, arcing white lines that show chromatic aberration. The visualization is generated from a fixed dataset; its motion is a simulation, an interpretation of static points brought to life in the render.
