A current is not a single path, but the weight of many moving together. The pressure builds in channels unseen until it finds its release, a surge that rewrites the map. It is the physics of wanting a different place, rendered as a force of nature.
How it was made
The piece renders a migration dataset as a problem of fluid dynamics. By stripping away all analytical chrome—no charts, no text, no interface—the visualization expresses population pressure as a raw, physical force. The choice of code-native motion allows the system to show the data not as a static map, but as an unfolding current, where routes are carved and pressure finds its release over time. The argument is made entirely through the flow, density, and energy of the lines. A generative motion piece built with Canvas2D. The system simulates population flow by drawing thousands of fine, curved strokes across an off-white canvas. These strokes, rendered in deep indigo, muted ochre, and safety orange, follow invisible vector paths. Where paths converge, the density of strokes increases, causing the channels to thicken and brighten into surges of color. The system’s behavior is choreographed by a fixed dataset, allowing the simulation to play out the full pressure and release of the flow as a complete, authored event.
