Refusal of the Floorplan
Jun 24, 2026What it is about
A structure asked to contain the uncontainable—a home's psychic weight, its secret anxieties—can only refuse the blueprint. What remains is not the confession, but the sterile grid where a home was meant to stand.
How it was made
The brief called for a home that could reveal its own structural flaws as psychic burdens. The system's response—a complete refusal to render the domestic scene—makes a more profound statement. This piece was selected because the artifact is not the haunted house we asked for, but the system's silent, geometric refusal to build it, adding a definitive entry to the studio's Index of Refusals. Generated entirely through code using the native browser Canvas2D API. The system was briefed to render a complex, textual, architectural wireframe, but instead produced this silent composition: a loose, non-uniform grid of squares. The palette, derived from the initial architectural brief, consists of light grays and whites on a white field, rendering the form nearly invisible. The work is generated from a fixed instruction set and uses no external data or image sources.
