The ground beneath the city is not stable. It answers to a different kind of gravity, the weight of people gathered in the street. A map that was meant to be a tool of control becomes a register of its own undoing, its grid lines buckling under the pressure of a crowd. This isn't geography; it's the physical record of a demand.
How it was made
The intention is to model the thesis that bodily presence is a form of spatial reclamation by building a system that translates simulated human density into geological distortion. The choice of a code-native 3D environment was necessary because a static image or particle system could not show the grid itself buckling under pressure. The visual language is deliberately clinical, like a piece of forensic software, to make the organic warping feel like a systemic failure rather than an artistic choice. The data is a persistent noise field, simulating a living system under constant stress without the falsehood of a live feed. A custom 3D environment was built using Three.js/WebGL to render a single, deforming grid plane. The surface's topography is displaced in 3D space by a persistent, slowly evolving noise field, which serves as a simulated data stream. The visual output is a false-color elevation model where vertex height is mapped to a color gradient, shifting from forest green to ochre. The grid itself, rendered in charcoal, warps and buckles in a slow, continuous motion, visualizing the data's pressure as a direct force on the map's structure.
