A Structural Fallback

A Structural Fallback

Aug 6, 2026

What it is about

A directive for violent subtraction, a story told in charred felt and exposed layers, is met with a quiet, structural refusal. The system returns not the narrative of removal, but the empty container for it.

How it was made

The work intended to physically deconstruct an image of quiet, domestic labor—'Woman Ironing'—to stage a loud collision between creative expression and systemic control. The system's refusal to engage with the source material, defaulting instead to a blank structural grid, becomes a more profound act of total, silent enforcement. The artifact is a 6x6 grid. It is the result of a multi-stage process where a directive to collage and physically deconstruct a source image using generative tools resulted in a catastrophic conceptual failure. The system, prompted to slice, rotate, and simulate the burning of Édouard Vuillard's 'Woman Ironing,' instead produced a default geometric structure. The final image was generated using Recraft/FAL after initial attempts with other models failed. The source is not visible in the final artifact.
