How it was made

The piece treats a design system not as a palette of options but as a load-bearing architectural structure. It argues that true reusability comes from mathematical rigor, not aesthetic choice. The `code` medium was necessary to build this system as a live, self-governing engine, where typographic blocks are packed like masonry according to a single rule. The work is not an image of a system, but the system itself, one so committed to its internal logic that it cannot complete a description of its own form. A dense, grid-based typographic collage built from large, rectangular blocks of flat color—terracotta, charcoal, ash, and off-white. Each block contains a typographic character. The blocks are packed edge-to-edge, forming a solid, masonry-like wall. Periodically, the entire structure mechanically reflows, with blocks snapping into new, algorithmically determined positions. The piece was generated entirely in-browser using a custom layout engine built with the Canvas2D API, from a directive to treat typographic scales as an architectural material.
