asciime

Type anything. It talks back in ASCII.

Make one talk ↗

Type an emoji or a word and asciime turns it into a body made of characters. Give it a line and it says it, with a jaw that moves on the words.

The glyph is sculpted into a rounded 3D shape, lit like a portrait and redrawn as text every frame. Dense characters where it's dark, sparse ones where it's light. The colour comes from the glyph itself.

Drag it to turn it. Change the characters it's drawn with: blocks, round ones, or its own name. Drop in a photo and it cuts out the subject and sculpts that.

Press Build and it can go further: the glyph goes through an image-to-3D model and comes back as a real mesh, with the jaw cut from its actual triangles.

Take it home as a GIF or a video with the voice in it. Everything is made in your browser, so the file always matches the screen.

It started as one fox.

asciime: an octopus, an invader and a mushroom, each made of letters

01 / One fox

July 30, 2026. It began as Sloane: a fox emoji that talked, redrawn as characters at 148 by 92 against her own voice.

The first try built her from sixteen simple shapes, and it never looked like her. The likeness lives in the exact curve of the skull. So it used the real fox and redrew it instead.

Colour picks which part of the character ramp a cell can use, and light picks where inside it. The eyes always get the darkest step, found as a matching pair so a tilt of the head can't turn the nose into an eye.

02 / A mouth that talks

The same day she got a real voice, not the robot one.

Her mouth first followed loudness, and it chattered. Now it opens, holds, and settles when she stops, at about the rate the original moved. The head stays still. The rushed feeling had been the head, not the mouth.

03 / Anything

That night the fox became a tool. Type anything: the glyph becomes lit 3D blocks, then characters, with a hinged jaw driven by the voice.

On August 2 Sloane left the page. It's just the tool now.

04 / A body, then a real one

On August 3 the flat slab became an inflated body, rounded and sealed at the edges. It faces you and breathes. Spin became a choice.

The same day Build started sending the glyph to an image-to-3D model. A real mesh comes back and the jaw is cut from its triangles. The sculpt stays as the instant version while it waits.

It renders at the fox's density now, uses the whole ramp, and keeps the light on the face as it sways.

05 / Mute

In October the model service ran out of credit, and the page went silent and flat.

On October 31 it got a second voice to fall back on, and stopped making a paid model on every visit. It opens on the cherry as a sculpt, instantly, and only makes the real model when you press Build. It fits a phone. It wears the site.

The same day it learned to take your image: drop a photo on the stage and it cuts out the subject and sculpts it.

What it taught me

The likeness lives in the curve. Simple shapes never made the fox look like the fox.

A mouth that follows loudness chatters. One that opens, holds and settles talks.

When the expensive part goes away, the toy should still work.
