Co‑creation Lab’s latest experiment replaces the wooden resonator of a banjo with a simple party balloon. The instrument’s body, printed in matte white, sits on a modest wooden stand while a glossy red balloon occupies the space where a sound‑box would normally be. The balloon is inflated, tied off with a thin string, and becomes the visible heart of the instrument.
The balloon does more than look playful; it is the acoustic engine. By adjusting the balloon’s internal pressure, the player changes the volume of air that vibrates, shifting the instrument’s pitch in real time. In other words, the shape of the banjo doubles as a user‑controlled tuner.
